Jim with his dad, Chris Bogios, following the Glider show at Cafe Du Nord

Jim with Amy Grant's band (without Amy!) before their recent appearance on The View

Rocking out with bandmate David Immergluck

November Journal 2006

Happy Thanksgiving!

I am enjoying the home life these days but as always have a few things
going on. I am on a track of the new Ben Folds release
supersunnyspeedgraphic, the lp.
Millard and I just played the View with Amy Grant to promote a new
DVD/CD she released that we are on. It is a pretty good band but my
favorite part of the DVD is the behind-the-scenes footage of Millard
showing off his yo-yo skills. (I didn't think people still used those
things!!)

Glider continues to play here and there. We had a great gig in October
that sold out the Cafe Du Nord. Even a couple of the boys from the
band showed up. Although Dan spent the night at the bar chatting up
the ladies, Adam was front and center all night long. Now that is
support!!

My Dad (who plays trumpet in the San Francisco Symphony) sat in with
Glider and that is always a treat. Side note to this is way back in
1994 on May 20th at the Fillmore my Dad sat in with yet another
Bogios-Immergluck band, Papa's Culture. We were opening up for none
other than.... you guessed it... Counting Crows. How about that??
Small world eh??? Now, since the caffeine is starting to kick in as I
write this I will go even further.

The first time I actually played on stage with anyone from Counting
Crows was in 1997 at Park West in Chicago for a WXRT concert. Adam and
Charley sat in while I was playing a gig with Sheryl Crow. Fast
forward 6 years later to 2002 when I fly out to audition for Counting
Crows in the middle of their tour on a very cold night in November. As
I walk in the club I have that very weird feeling of deja vu. As the
hours pass I began to piece it all together. I had been here once
before when I played a gig with Sheryl a long time ago. It was the
same place that Adam and Charley sat in with us the very first and only
time! So there we all were, six years later, and Counting Crows are
playing the very same gig for WXRT. I love this kind of stuff!! I
don't know quite what it means but I still love it.

Okay, enough with that nonsense. What else do I want to write about.
Oh... the elections. I am extremely happy with the election results.
Of course I don't think it will get us out of Iraq anytime soon but
maybe things will change a little. You know the U.S. is finally
beginning to wake up and sense a problem when Ohio votes Democrat.
Another observation was on the very first day after prop 87
(alternative energy bill) did not pass, gas prices rose 12 cents a
gallon. Coincidence or capitalism at it's finest???

That's all I have for you today. I will indeed be out on the slopes
for a few days before the December 9th gig at Vail skiing with Dave
Bryson. All of this is of course against the wishes of our tour
manager Tom Mullally. In your best Irish accent now.... "Don't be
stupid and break ye arm!!" As far as the rest of the boys skiing....
well, come on now we have already talked about that.

Cheers, Jim.
