Apologies for my long absence. Other than a second hip surgery, some pretty good sessions here and there, and a trip to Chile, it's been two walks a day hanging out with Ellie Girl our dog!
As you have probably heard Counting Crows have finally laced em' up, blown off the dust, and entered the studio. Right now it is only covers, but I have heard rumors of a new song making an appearance. In the meantime it is nice to be back doing what I was meant to do, play music. (No offense Ellie)
In the control room turning the knobs we have my canadian drum tech Shawn "Lunchy" Dealey. Lunchy is way over qualified for simply handling the drums (although he does an amazing job) So, we have been expanding his role. Back in the day I spotted Lunchy while we were touring with the Goo Goo Dolls . I noticed he was not only a stand up guy, but possessed a great ear, and an array of amazing skills. A couple of months after the tour he was working for us.
One of the many interesting aspects to this recording is that there is no producer, other than the seven guys in the band. As you might imagine, this makes for some conflicting ideas and interesting debates. At times it can get a little noisy in the control room with so many...... opinions. But for the most part it is a healthy thing, and the collaborative effort is what makes it a band.
Looking forward to everyone hearing this music and continued recording for Counting Crows.
Cheers, Jim.
